Makes: 6
Prep: 20 minutes (+ 30 min chilling)
Cook: 30 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- ¹⁄³ cup (80g) butter
- ½ cup caster sugar, separated
- Pinch of sea salt
- 1 cup plain flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Olive oil spray
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Nutella, to serve
METHOD
1. Place the butter, 1 tbsp of the sugar, salt and 1 cup of water into a medium saucepan. Place
over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
2. Reduce the heat to medium, add the flour and stir vigorously until the dough comes together and is nice and smooth. Continue cooking and stirring for a further two minutes.
3. Transfer the dough to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and beat for 5 minutes to remove most of the heat.
4. Add the eggs and vanilla to the bowl of the stand mixer and continue to mix for 5 minutes or until the eggs are fully incorporated and the dough is smooth. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped nozzle.
5. Line a baking tray with baking paper and pipe 10 cm lengths of dough, cutting the ends with scissors. Transfer the tray to the freezer for 30 minutes to firm up.
6. Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 190°C then place the remaining sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl and set aside.
7. Place half of the churros into the base of the air fryer and spray lightly with olive oil spray. Select the CAKE function, adjust the temperature to 190°C and cook for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Toss the hot churros through the cinnamon-sugar then set aside and repeat with the remaining frozen dough. 8. Serve the churros with Nutella for dipping and enjoy!
